It offers students the opportunity to:

In order to be successful on the course you will require a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in the media, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively

Course Content and method of Assessment
For this qualification, candidates will study 12 units, 4 of which are mandatory and 8 optional.
There are no externally examined units on this course of study. All units are assessed through a portfolio.
Mandatory units:
- Introduction to Media and textual analysis
- Pre-production and planning
- Production
- Marketing Media and audience feedback
Optional units from:
Photography & digital imaging / UK film studies / Video production and editing / Factual writing for print products / Publishing / Design and layout / Writing for the screen.
The course also includes a Work Experience unit which is undertaken in the second year of study.
After the Course
The above qualifications can lead to further study in Higher Education, at degree or HND level. Many students, however, choose to go straight into employment, because this programme of study develops the transferable skills and the key skills that employers are looking for - thus opening up access to a very wide range of employment opportunities.
Subject Combinations
Media Studies combines well with most AS and A level subjects. There is no barrier to studying the National Diploma with Film or Communication Studies.
