Who Is This Course For?

Anyone who trains as part of their job or other activities. The course is “generic;” it isn’t just for environmental health related topics and revolves around the topic you want to teach. The benchmark “intermediate” trainer skills qualification for CIEH registered tutors.

Topic areas covered

The qualification will enable successful candidates to understand and put into practice the following:

  • How to evaluate training needs
  • How to structure and design training sessions; learning styles and lesson planning
  • How training can best be delivered to secure effective learning
  • How to make training session content is interesting, stimulating and relevant
  • Assessing learning

The programme will involve a significant amount of hands-on activity with additional work outside the sessions to develop the content and materials for assessment on the final day. The programme is quite demanding because it results in the acquisition of new skills and techniques over a short period.

Candidates are assessed on:

  • Their design and delivery of a 20 minute training session which they are required to deliver to other members of the group
  • Critical self-evaluation of their presentation and action plan for improvement
  • Peer review of another candidate’s presentation
