Course programme

The course is arranged in the following units:- Compulsory: Internal Control & Accounting Systems (personal Project) Financial Statements - The regulations and techniques required for preparation of the year end accounts for limited companies Budgeting - Analysis of budgets to actual costs in a more in depth manner Financial Performance - An in depth look at costing theory and analysis Optional: (You must choose at least 2 from the 5 options) External Auditing - Processes used to audit organisations accounts Credit Management & Control - This looks at principles of the liquidity management and the fundamental need for credit control in an effective organisation Business Tax - The regulations surrounding preparing year end accounts for companies Personal Tax - The regulations governing the payroll function Cash Management - this looks at how budgets are compared to actual figures and some basic analysis technique are introduced. There will be 5 computer based assessments, 3 compulsory, 2 optional units and a personal project to undertake. As such a high level of literacy, comprehensive, communication skills as well as numeracy skills will be required. You may do more than 2 optional units, but this will involve more time and costs. Success depends on a number of things:- Regular contact, you will receive a weekly email from the AAT administrator, which will include exam dates, holiday periods and personal progression. If you are not active on the distance learning Moodle site weekly, you will receive an email followed by a letter and a phone call. Continued non activity can lead to being withdrawn from the course. Students are to inform the AAT administrator if they are unable to study, holidays, illness etc. The administrator will track your progress, provide feedback on achievements, book exams and ensure you are supported to a timely achievement. 1:1 reviews are available on request should you feel additional clarification or guidance is required. Workshops on specific subjects will be offered as a supplement to the online resources. Once all units in this level have been successfully completed you will be awarded a QCF Level 4 Diploma on in Accounting from the AAT, which is nationally recognised and can help to improve employment prospects and progression.Students will need to enrol onto each of the 6 units separately. Each unit is an individual course and students will have 16 weeks to complete each one. Students must complete all 4 compulsory units and 2 of the optional units before they will gain the Level 4 Certificate. Distance learning programmes operate through the college online learning environment; resources are provided by and accessed through the Kaplan website and these include interactive tasks and workbooks. Students can access study materials and activities to develop their knowledge and understanding in preparation for assessments.
