Course programme

You will gain a level 4 sports massage qualification. The course will give you a sound understanding of advanced / sports massage (non pathological & pathological application) You will study the following units: Unit 1: UV40325, Practical Anatomy & Physiology Subjects include; Subjective assessment, objective assessments; palpation, bony landmarks, joint lines, range of motion and posture assessment. Unit 2: UV40326, Applying Massage Methods to Prevent & Manage Injuries This unit covers the injury evaluation stage; subjective (consultation) and objective (client assessment) assessments and the interpretation stage; practical application of treatment and homecare. Assessment of both units are carried out by a portfolio of evidence and must be achieved fully for certification; * workbooks *case study & reflective practice * assignments & research (3) * practical observations (clinical / insitu) * work log The work log is required to be achieved by the end of the course for certification; this must be supervised by an insured practitioner. Up to 50% of these hours can be collected from in class informal clinical work, college field trips and assessment/ case study. The rest of these hours are to be gained through work placement, event massage and clients (sourced by the student). Students may register with SMA at level 1 or as a full member after certification, this is not mandatory but recommended as good practice; http://sportsmassageassociation.org At the end of this course you are qualified to carry out sports massage to a level 4 standard but will not be qualified to diagnose sport injuries or administer treatment, you can treat based on a medical refferal {you are not a qualified sports therapist but it does support progression in this area}Three and a half hours once a week involving both theory and practical input, plus attendance at sports events. There is a high level of home study which includes; workbooks, assignments, case studies, reflective practice and the work log. Students must be able to commit to this.
