Qualification

Awarding Body: ASCENTIS

Award: Certificate in Education and Training (QCF)

Course Content

The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training replaces the Level 3 and 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS). It extends and builds on the previous PTLLS qualification (now known as the Level 3 Award in Education and Training).

The course gives the candidate the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to ‘confirm occupational competence’ and familiarises them with the rewards, challenges, and responsibilities of teaching in their subject area. It aims to provide experience and understanding of the practicalities of teaching/training in a particular educational setting or specific context, for example colleges, community centres, workplace/industry, hospitals (or any post-16 setting in what is now termed the ‘Lifelong Learning Sector’).

The course consists of 140 hours of tutor-directed contact and 200 hours of independent study (including 30 hours of teaching practice.) Trainees will compile an e-portfolio.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements are at least a level 3 standard of literacy. Candidates should hold a relevant vocational and/or academic qualification of at least the level above that of their learners and ideally a minimum Level 3 qualification in their own area of specialism. Fees will be ?620 (including the college registration fee).
