Course Overview

It leads to the Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership awarded by the Chartered Management Institute.

Leadership diploma course content:

Equivalent to the former Diploma in Management this sought after leadership and management qualification consists of nine units of learning, five of which are mandatory core units. The remaining 4 units are a free choice to suit your own job role. Core unit topics include:

• understanding organisational demands on middle managers
• enhanced leadership skills
• self development for leaders
• informational skills and effective communication
• decision making
• meeting health and safety requirements
• planning and managing resources
• managing stakeholders
• quality and continuous improvement
• undertaking a management project

Core units: 5001, 5002, 5004, 5005, 5006

5001 Personal development as a manager and leader
Content includes: the impact of organisational objectives on the manager, identifying management and leadership skills, the role of personal development in meeting objectives, meeting organisational health and safety requirements. Credit: 6

5002 Information based decision-making
Content includes: identifying information requirements, using data and information, decision making skills, effective communication skills. Credit: 7

5004 Resource management
Content includes: understand the organisations supply chain, create effective resource plans to meet objectives, use resource information to plan for the future. Credit: 7

5005 Meeting stakeholder and quality needs
Content includes: stakeholder analysis, understanding and applying key quality concepts, implementing continuous improvement. Credit: 6

5006 Conducting a management project
Content includes: identifying, research and undertaking a work related project, including reviewing the impact of the project and the production of a management report. Credit: 10

Option units: One from: 5003/5012 plus Three from 5007, 5008, 5009, 5010, 5011, 5013

Assessment:

This management and leadership diploma qualification consists of nine units of learning. In order to achieve the qualification participants must successfully complete a written work-based assignment for each unit of around 2000-2500 words. One unit requires a management project to be undertaken and a report to be written.

You will be allocated a tutor who will be your personal guide, mentor and coach. They will be an expert in their field and distance learning. You can be confident that their support and help will give you every opportunity to be successful in your leadership development. Your personal tutor will also assess the work you have to submit for your leadership and management qualification. They will provide you with full written feedback.

Fees are fully inclusive and cover:

• registration with the CMI for the qualification which lasts for three years
• membership of the CMI for three years
• all study materials to help you achieve your leadership diploma
• additional resources to help you maximise your study time and help you with assignments
• unlimited, pro-active support from your own experienced personal tutor for 12 months
