LEVEL 5 TRINITY ADDITIONAL DIPLOMA IN TEACHING ENGLISH (ESOL) IN THE
LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR
Entry Requirements
Candidates must:
· have a Cert TESOL
of CELTA qualification
· demonstrate language and literacy skills to
level 3
· have a GCSE or equivalent in English Language and mathematics
·
have two A levels in any subject
· attend an interview and successfully
complete a pre-entry test
· have access to a minimum of 75 hours
relevant teaching practice at two different levels
Description
The
course length is 22 weeks (44 guided learning hours) for candidates who
have a generic teaching qualification (Cert Ed or PGCE), plus an
additional 10 weeks (20 guided learning hours) for candidates without a
generic teaching qualification (see below). All candidates need to
complete a minimum of 75 hours of teaching practice.
This course is
validated by Trinity College London, and is specifically designed to equip
candidates with the necessary specialist knowledge and teaching skills
required to become effective teachers of ESOL in the Lifelong Learning
Sector.
On successful completion of the first 22 weeks of the
course, candidates with a generic teaching qualification (Cert Ed or PGCE)
will become fully qualified to teach ESOL in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
Candidates without a generic teaching qualification will need to take an
additional 10-week module entitled 'Planning and assessing for ESOL
inclusive practice'. This module provides access to the second year of a
Cert Ed or PGCE.

Where a course is aimed towards an assessment/examination, it
is expected that all students will enter for the qualification.
