Tutor/Head of Training

Sylvia is an experienced tutor in all levels of BSL. She has recently acheived her NVQ4 in BSL Qualification and is currently undertaking her A1 training programme. Since April 2010 she has been in the position of Head of Training at Sign Solutions.

Sign Solutions is proud to offer this level 4 BSL programme accredited by iBSL; Deaf-led qualifications at the heart of the Deaf community.

iBSL is an awarding organisation, and is approved and accredited by Ofqual, to provide qualifications and to award credits and certificates for these qualifications. This qualification aims to further your development in functional BSL communication in more depth, requiring the ability to exchange and understand information, ideas, advice and opinion at a normal speed.

The award consists of 3 Units: receptive, productive and an introduction to BSL linguistics.

The course programme comprises tutor/assessor contact time and includes opportunities to undertake the assessments required. It is Sign Solutions’ ethos that all BSL students should be taught by an experienced and qualified teacher. Sylvia Simmonds has extensive experience teaching at all levels of BSL, as well as being part of our interpreter training programmes and an approved Deaf Relay interpreter.

The course is open to candidates who have completed their BSL level 3. There is no assessment required for this programme.

There are 8 group sessions at our premises in Alvechurch as follows commencing on Wednesday 24th September 2014 over a 12 month period. There will also be four, one hour tutorials (via Skype) during the course. A full list of dates is available on request.

Additional information

with attendances being once a month over a twelve month period this course is more flexible than at other centres.  Sylvia Simmonds is an experienced tutor and native BSL user and has an extremely good reputation and high standards.
