AS Level in Archaeology
Course summary:
This one-year course leads to an AS level, which is a qualification in its own right. It can also be used as the first half (50%) of an A level qualification.
Course content:
This course covers the following two units:
Unit 1: The Archaeology of Religion and Ritual in
Prehistoric Europe - 30,000BC to 43AD
includes:
megalithic structures (eg Stonehenge)
rock art and cave paintings
Unit 2: Archaelogical Skills and Methods
includes:
discovery of sites (eg aerial photography)
excavation (eg trenches)
dating (eg Radio Carbon Dating)
Course structure:
This AS Level could be combined with Art Subjects such as History, Geography, Critical Thinking and English or Social Science Subjects such as Economics and Sociology or Science Subjects such as Biology and Chemistry.
Assessment procedure:
Both units are assessed by single paper examinations in May/June.

GCE AS Level Archaeology
Progression opportunities:
On successful completion of the AS level course, students can progress on to the A2 level in Archaeology.
