AS Level in Critical Thinking


Course content:
Critical thinking is a form of reflective reasoning which analyses and evaluates information and arguments by applying a range of intellectual skills in order to reach clear, logical and coherent judgements within a given context.
Students are required to understand arguments, reasons, conclusions and counter arguments. The course delivers a range of skills and enhances candidates achievements in their other subjects.

Unit 1: Introduction to Critical Thinking.
* The language of reasoning
* Credibility

Unit 2: Assessing and Developing Argument
* Analysis of argument
* Evaluating arguments
* Developing one's own reasoned argument

Course structure:
Critical thinking can be studied successfully with any other subject and is well regarded for university entrance.

Assessment procedure:
Both units are assessed by single paper examinations available in May/June


Qualifications achieved:
GCE AS Level in Critical Thinking

Progression opportunities:
The AS level in Critical Thinking will support other A level subjects as an entry qualification into many Higher Education courses.
