Duration: 1 / 2 years
The first year English Language course is intended to develop your interest in how English Language functions. For example, looking at text messages, extracts from magazines such as Bliss, the language of the courtroom and speeches by famous people. You will also have the opportunity to develop your creative writing skills, producing one piece for a reading audience and one piece for a listening one. In the second year, students will study how and why English has changed over time, the development of English as a world language and the how children's spoken and written language develops. You will also have to produce a piece of coursework investigating an area of English for example, teen speak, horoscopes in women's magazines or a comparison of Barak Obama's and Tony Blair's skills as public speakers.
