Why choose this course?
The course is designed to deepen your appreciation and enjoyment of film, the major art form of the twenty first century and a cultural form of great significance. You will be introduced to a range of national and international films, and it is hoped that this will give you an interest in film culture that will remain with you long after you leave college.
What will I study?
You will study cinema as a medium, as an art form and as a social and economic institution, whilst viewing a wide range of different films; you will develop skills of observation, critical analysis and personal reflection.
The course explores the relationship between the film text and the individual by focusing on the exploration of meaning and response.
Additional film viewings will be required outside of the classroom.
Huish Extra
The course is supported by a part-time technical expert. In addition to coursework, students are given the opportunity to participate in a timetabled video enrichment course which culminates in the Annual Huish -Oscars ceremony. If you choose to make a film for your coursework you must complete this course. There are several opportunities for student visits throughout the year which in the past have included Hollywood, New York and EuroDisney.
