This course is aimed at people who are considering a career with the public services sector or who are employed as a public services employee in, for example, the police or fire and rescue service. It is aimed at gaining an insight into the supervision and management responsibilities of those working in the sectors and developing research and analytical skills. The main pathways are for individuals to improve personal and professional development, support their existing work experience and to help them towards possible career progression, or simply as a personal challenge. After completing your higher national diploma, you may be able to achieve a full degree by doing a one-year “top-up” course. During the programme you will study and practise a variety of techniques and develop a substantial portfolio of work, as well as learning the theory behind subject areas such as criminology and custodial care. There is wide variety of topics to study such as research project in public services, emergency planning, personal outdoor skills, employability skills and managing stress.
