This course is aimed at people who would like to work in a wide variety of careers in the media industry, in areas such as film, television, websites and animation. During the programme you will study and practise a number of techniques and develop a substantial portfolio of work, as well as learning essential media theory. In addition to the mandatory units you will be able to choose the optional units that interest you most. After completing your higher national certificate, there is the option to top up to a higher national diploma, which is a level five qualification.

Four GCSE passes at grade C or above, to include English language A level three qualification in an appropriate subject Successful interview with visual portfolio and demonstrating commitment to the subject

Mandatory units include:
- Visual communication in art and design
- Ideas generation and development in art and design
- Contextual and cultural referencing in art and design
- Professional practice in art and design
Optional units include:
- Web authoring
- 3D computer modelling and animation
- Digital video post-production and editing
- Graphic narrative production
- DVD menu design and authoring
You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including written assignments, work-based assignments, work experience, practical assessment, portfolio development and presentations.
