Our course embraces a wide range of human activity and you will have the chance to broaden your interests, examine historical issues, challenge existing orthodoxies and engage with historical debates. You will be able to critically analyse sources, make comparative judgments and test your opinions: skills that will stand you in good stead in a vast range of careers.

What will I study?
During the first year you will look at Germany in the first half of the twentieth century, including Hitler and the Third Reich, and the Weimar Republic. You will also study aspects of British foreign policy between 1939-1964, specifically the Second World War, the Cold War, Decolonisation and Europe.

An important part of your second year is the study of 100 years of Russian history. You will investigate the historiography of Lenin, and have the opportunity to research a taught unit in more depth.

Huish Extra
