Who is this course for?
AS / A2 level media studies is an exciting discipline to study. It is a course designed to enhance your enjoyment and appreciation of the media industry and its role in your daily life.
What will I learn?
You will be taught the tools needed to critically understand how the media works by learning to 'read' media texts such as TV, film, magazines, newspapers, music, the advertising industry and new media such as blog journalism and the internet.
Assessment
MS1 - Media Representations and Responses - this is a two and a half hour exam. MS2 - Media Production Processes - coursework component of the
Assessment. MS3 - Media Investigation and Production - coursework component of the
Assessment. MS4 - Text, Industry and Audience - this is a two and a half hour exam.
On Completion Achievement / Progression
Media studies will encourage you to develop your own views and interpretation of the world around you as well as developing rigorous research skills essential to higher education. Students who successfully complete the AS level can progress to A2 level.

Requirement
You will need the minimum entry requirement of 4 grade C passes or above at GCSE level, one preferably in English as you will need a good command of the English language, the ability to write along with a good imagination. Above all else you will need the ability to look at the world with a fresh pair of eyes and the curiosity to question what you see. Students wishing to take this subject as part of the full-time provision should complete a college application form on receipt of which we will invite you to the college for an informal interview where you will have the opportunity to talk with the tutors. You will also take a literacy and numeracy
