Film Studies
Qualification: AS/A Level WJEC

Duration: 1 / 2 years
Interested in films? Would you like to spend more time finding out about them? If so, Film Studies could be the A Level for you. Film is a key twenty first century art form. It is one of those media technologies that dominate our lives, in the cinema and at home. We will be looking in detail at not only individual films but at the societies that have produced those films. The course is based around the study of films and film making, and also the study of cinema institutions involved in production, distribution and exhibition in the USA and Britain. A wide range of films will be studied, including mainstream Hollywood films, British Independent Film and, in the second year, films from South East Asia. Coursework includes storyboarding and video-making.

Qualification explained
A-Level courses are divided into two parts. In the first year you will study two units of a subject leading to an AS (Advanced Subsidiary) qualification. In the second year, you can take a further two units at A2 in the same subject to gain a full A Level. (In some subjects, the courses are divided into 3 rather than 2 units at AS and A2.)
