Why study Applied Health & Social Care?
The AS/A2 in Health & Social Care Single Award is designed to widen your participation in vocationally-related learning. It provides a foundation for study of Health & Social Care, which will be suitable for Further or Higher Education or for entry into employment.

What do I study?
Year 1 (AS)
The content of the AS will focus on the needs of clients and techniques and professional services aimed at meeting those needs. There are two coursework units and one exam unit: communication and values (coursework)
human growth and development (exam)
positive care environment (coursework)
Year 2 (A2)
The content of A2 will develop AS content through addressing the factors affecting and issues involved in service delivery. There are two coursework units and one exam unit:
meeting individual needs (exam)
promoting health and well-being (coursework)
investigating diseases (coursework)

Where does Applied Health & Social Care take me?
Successful completion of AS and A2 Health & Social Care offers several routes for progression. These include:
Higher Education opportunities such as a degree/diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Radiotherapy, Paramedics, Speech and Language Therapy, Health Studies etc
direct entry into employment within the health and social care services for example, as a Clinical Support Nurse, Home Help, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy Assistants etc
further learning opportunities within employment such as training, possibly in National Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
