Our new range of liberal studies degrees provides a true US-style liberal arts education, a first in the UK. You choose a ‘major’ subject area whilst taking a range of ‘electives’ to tailor your degree to match your passions and interests. Every module in our liberal studies programme has been specifically designed for the degree, delivering you a broad-based education which engages you in critical and interdisciplinary thinking. Liberal arts graduates are well-prepared to make the most of opportunities in a fast-moving global economy. The Art History programme explores the production and reception of images and objects across time and space. It combines formal image or object analysis with research into why, when, where and for whom the image or object was produced. Images and objects from across the world are explored in parallel. While in the past, art history focused on drawing, painting, sculpture and architecture, this programme equally engages with wider interdisciplinary contexts in which works are produced, such as social, cultural, political and economic factors. Your studies will include studio experience, fundamental to a full understanding of the creative process. The majority of classes take place in museums, galleries, auction houses and private and corporate collections, in and around London and you will benefit from a range of visiting speakers who are experts in the field. About this course

Study methods You will be taught by art historians with expertise in both historical and contemporary works of art. Faculty members are research active, regularly publishing in national and international publications, curating exhibitions and giving lectures in the public domain. Due to the wide range of art spaces available in London, many of the classes are conducted outside of the classroom to give you the opportunity to study images and objects first-hand. Class sizes are small in order to benefit from a greater interaction with faculty and visiting experts in the field. Assessment structure You will be assessed through a mix of presentations, written work (including journals and essays), tests and exams. Students with disabilities Some of our courses encourage trips outside of the campus. If you have a condition that affects your mobility...
