Costs and equipment 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. However they are required to pay for other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits. Learners 19+ leaving school with a Moving On Plan S139A will receive course and admin fee remission Students aged over 19 on the start date of their studies, have to pay tuition fees. In addition they are expected to pay awarding body registration and exam fees, other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits.
Some students may be eligible for a fee concession, although in most cases some element of the fees will have to be paid. All learners may be required to make a contribution towards the cost for visits, materials and examinations.

Course programme

You’ll learn important life skills, such as how to budget your money or research local jobs. With support from your personal tutor, you’ll develop practical skills such as filling in a form, using a timetable and designing a Powerpoint presentation. You’ll also get a taste for the career of your dreams, with opportunities to try different vocational areas such as motor vehicle, construction, catering, art and design.

This course consists of the following:

  • Life Skills: such as how to take an item back to a shop, how to budget money or how to be a good parent
  • Employment Skills: such as researching what jobs there locally, how to apply for jobs and how to be effective in the workplace
  • Functional English, Maths and ICT: such as how to write a letter, fill in a form, use a 24 hour timetable, design a PowerPoint presentation
  • Students will also get the chance to try out different vocational areas such as: Motor Vehicle, Construction, Catering, Childcare, Creative Media, Public Services, Art and Design, Drama and Retail

Learners will benefit from:

  • A Personal Tutor to help learners plan and succeed in college
  • A Teaching Assistant to give support in class when needed
  • Small class sizes so that everyone can get the attention they need
  • Support from other learners who have also experienced problems and barriers in education
