Course programme

You’ll learn a high level of technical knowledge, including diagnosis of complex system faults and advanced systems operation. Following on from diagnosis, you’ll expand your knowledge, learning to rectify engine and component faults, as well as system faults in the chassis, transmission and auxiliary electrical system.

It is a learning programme which involves students studying both theory and practical aspects of the following:

Diagnosis and Rectification of:

  • Engine and component faults
  • Chassis System faults
  • Transmission System faults
  • Auxiliary Electrical System faults

You will also have the opportunity to study other areas, including overhauling mechanical units and enhancement of vehicle systems. You will gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace.

You will study the following units:

  • Knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and repair of vehicle auxiliary electrical system faults
  • Knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and rectification of vehicle engine faults
  • Knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and rectification of light vehicle chassis faults
  • Knowledge and skills in the diagnosis of vehicle transmission and driveline faults

Every learner at Central Sussex College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements:

  • Subject Course – Vocational or chosen Academic subject, usually studied for 12 – 16 hours a week.
  • English and Maths – Every learner will work towards Level 2 English and Maths (C grade equivalent). Learners who have achieved a Grade C will extend their English and Maths.
  • 3E – Our own brand of specific entrepreneurship, enterprise and employability training.

You will have specific time in your timetable for each of the three elements above and you will be expected to attend all elements throughout the year. Study programmes are designed to help you meet your maximum potential and progress to the next level of study of into work.
