Course programme
For this course applicants should have already completed the NVQ 2 programme. All applicants will have an informal interview to determine suitability
On this course you will gain the knowledge skills in servicing, fault diagnosis, repair and overhaul of mechanical components. You will also be covering the competence in the workplace by building a portfolio of work based tasks. Areas of study include:
Health and Safety in the workplace. Your contribution to effective working relationships. All aspects of a motor vehicle engine and it′s transmission. Removing and replacing components - e.g. brake disc′s and pads, water pumps. Routing vehicle maintenance and servicing - e.g. brakes, steering, oil, suspension, gearbox, wheels & steering. Diagnose system faults - Electrical e.g. ECU′s. Enhancing vehicle system features - e.g. Engine tuning, chips, cams and exhausts . Inspecting vehicles - e.g. chassis, preparing for an MOT. Diagnose complex system faults - e.g. ECU′s, ABS, traction control, electronics, rectify complex system faults. Car chassis, the overhaul units - e.g. Alternators.

You may also like to undertake a management qualification at Level 4. After successfully completing the Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and with sufficient industrial experience you may have the opportunity to progress onto a Foundation Degree, ATA (Automotive Technician Accreditation).
