LLB(Hons) - Northumbria University

CECOS provides full time tuition for the Northumbria University LLB (Hons) open learning programme. Learning is developed through CECOS full time tutorials based on study materials delivered over the internet by the University. Each module has an extensive set of materials, a study schedule and answer guidance is supported by the university's e-learning portal.

The course is designed to give students an understanding of the operation of the English legal system, the diverse areas of law contained within that system and the methods employed by lawyers in using legal source materials. Throughout the route emphasis is placed on student-centred learning to foster research skills and initiative.

The course consists of the following subject areas:

English Legal System

Contract

Criminal Law

European Union Law

Tort

Public Law Property Law I and II Jurisprudence

Students have the opportunity to submit a dissertation in their final year of study.

Three options to be chosen from:

Medical Law

Company Law

Employment Law

Evidence

Once enrolled, the student will have access to all the university's facilities, including the libraries, student services and career advice. The student will also be given full access to legal databases available via internet.

This programme provides students with a qualifying degree that gives exemption from the academic stage of legal education to become a solicitor or barrister. Upon completion of the degree you may apply for the Legal Practice Course (LPC), the vocational stage of legal education to become a solicitor, or the Bar Vocational Course (BVC), the vocational stage of legal education to become a barrister. You will also find that obtaining a law degree opens up a wide range of career opportunities.
