About this course

Our law degrees are open to everyone – you don’t need a minimum number of UCAS points. Unlike traditional universities, we don’t judge you on your academic score alone. We want to meet you and find out about your skills. We offer places based on a diagnostic test and an interview. Subject to meeting the admission requirements, we’ll also guarantee our LLB graduates a place on our LPC and LLMs (masters degrees in law).

If you’re an international student, and English is not your first language, you’ll need to show your English is good enough by holding an IELTS level 6.5 score (or equivalent).

Course programme

LLB

On completion of the LLB or LLB (Business Law) you will be qualified to enter the vocational stage of training to be a solicitor (Legal Practice Course (LPC)) or barrister (Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC)). Law is also a respected degree subject to hold in many non-legal professions.

Studying the LLB or LLB (Business Law) may be the first experience you have of law.

Preparing you for practice

An LLB is an internationally recognised qualification and looks impressive on your CV. BPP's LLB is a general law degree and suitable for you regardless of the area of practice you wish to enter. Through the selection of relevant options, it is possible to theme the LLB so that you graduate with an LLB (Business Law), giving you a competitive advantage in the commercial legal employment market.

In addition, an undergraduate degree in law is well thought of by employers in many non-legal industries.

Materials

To ensure that you have the right materials upon which to base your studies and save you the considerable cost of purchasing expensive law books independently, within your fees, BPP will provide you with an extensive range of text, case and statute books appropriate for the modules you are studying.

Progression on to the professional programmes

After completing the LLB, intending solicitors study the LPC and intending barristers the BVC (both of which are offered at BPP Law School on a full and part-time basis).

How is the programme taught?

The programme is taught by a mix of staff from academic and practice backgrounds. This enables us to give you a real feel for what practice is like in a variety of areas of law and ensures that what we teach is relevant to what law firms and barristers' chambers want their lawyers to know.

Teaching revolves around tailored Client Information Packs (CIPs), introducing you to the law in a way in which you are likely to experience it in practice.

Seminars are available at different times each week* - weekdays, evenings and Saturdays - meaning if one week you are unable to attend your regular seminar times you can, with prior arrangement, attend the same seminar at an alternative time. You can also view seminars online. This flexibility gives you the flexibility to organise your timetable to fit around your needs.

You can accelerate or decelerate the pace of your studies, in line with the level of workload that you are able to handle.

Modes of study

Our LLB programmes are flexi-mode meaning you can study at a place and in a way that suits you. The programmes can be completed in two years with a full-time work load or over more time - up to six years - giving you time to attend to any other commitments you may have.

The LLB and LLB (Business Law) are offered as a taught programme at our law schools in London (Waterloo) and Manchester* and via distance learning. If you opt for distance learning you are welcome to use our legal library, careers service, pro bono centre and other facilities in Leeds and Manchester.

You can begin the programme in January, May or September.

Assessment

Each module is assessed by a variety of methods, including:

  • coursework
  • exams
  • multiple choice tests
  • oral assessments

You'll receive continual feedback and support from your tutors, so you can keep monitoring your progress and improve where necessary to achieve a good degree.
