Course Overview
Our LLB (Hons) course is a full, Qualifying Law Degree (QLD). While the content of the course is typical of any QLD, with smaller class sizes we aim to provide an exceptionally high level of individual student support unrivalled by many other institutions, in addition we run a programme of extra-curricular practical legal skills in order to prepare you for further study and careers within the legal profession.
The course will provide you with detailed knowledge and understanding of legal rules and their contexts and develop your employability skills which will prepare you for a range of both legal and non-legal careers. You will also gain experience in practical legal research and problem-solving.
You should have good written and spoken English and a willingness to argue points from different perspectives, regardless of your own personal opinion. A commitment to continuous study which will require at least 24 hours a week private study (or part time equivalent) in addition to lecture and tutorial time. A willingness and enthusiasm for involvement in the wider aspects of student life, such as the Student Law Society and pro bono work will enrich your time studying with us. We encourage students to become involved in all of our extra-curricular activities in order to improve employability through CV enhancement.
This course will enable you to gain and develop your skills of cognitive analysis, practical and professional skills, and gain knowledge and understanding of complex legal, social, and ethical issues providing you with the skills required to progress within the legal profession or to transfer to other careers such as local or central government, journalism, or company secretarial work.
Throughout the course you will study the mandatory seven foundations of legal knowledge: Contract Law, Criminal Law, Public Law, Law of Torts, Property Law, European Union Law, and Equity and Trusts.
You will also study optional modules which allow you to pursue your own interests in areas such as Evidence and Advocacy, Criminal Litigation, Family and Child law, Immigration and Asylum Law, Civil Liberties and Human Rights, Penal Policy or Company Law.
The seven foundations of legal knowledge must be taken and passed for students to gain a QLD.
