Course programme
Since this programme leads to a qualifying law degree, students take nine obligatory courses: English Legal System, Legal Method, Public Law, Contract Law, Criminal Law, European Union Law, Tort Law, Land Law, and Equity and Trusts. In addition, you choose other modules from a range of specialist criminology subjects including Child Trafficking, Youth Justice, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Theories of Crime, and many more.
What will you gain?
The increased professionalisation of the criminal justice system in recent years requires new types of professional, equipped with skills that make them equally comfortable working in the prison system or appearing in court, as well as in other roles. This course provides essential understanding and skills to enable you to meet this contemporary challenge. You may go on to influence policy and public understanding as an effective criminologist, or complete your training as a lawyer with specialist awareness of the sociology of crime, policing and court policies, and other aspects of the criminal justice system.
Year One: Public Law; Contract Law; English Legal System; Legal Method
Year Two: Criminal Law; European Union Law; Tort; Institutions of Criminal Justice
Year Three: Equity and Trusts; Land Law; plus two optional modules chosen from a list including Violent Crime; Organised and White Collar Crime; Environmental Justice and Green Criminology; and International Criminal Law. Advanced Mooting and Advocacy and Strategic Lawyering are two further optional modules limited to 16 students selected by the programme team.
