  • Legal practice is changing. A successful legal career requires more than legal knowledge, business awareness and management skills are also essential.

    This exciting degree course has been designed with the changing nature of legal practice in mind. It builds on Aston Business Schools' longstanding strengths in legal and management education and has been developed with input from the legal profession.

    The course enables you to acquire a qualifying law degree, along with management knowledge and skills. This enables you to understand the commercial context within which legal issues arise, which is essential if you are to understand your client’s needs.

    Year 1

    In your first year you will study a mixture of legal and management subjects. These will give you an insight into the law-making process, the manner in which contractual relationships are regulated, the ways in which financial performance is measured as well as the economic and psychological issues associated with managing (and working within) organisations. The modules are:

    • Constitutional & Administrative Law
    • Contract Law
    • Economic Environment of Business
    • Introduction to Organisational Behaviour
    • Accounting For Law
    • Criminal Law
    • Introduction to Legal Skills and System
    Year 2

    In this year the proportion of your time spent studying law will increase. This will give you a more detailed insight into the law making process and your management and business skills are developed further through your participation on Aston Business School core modules.

    The core modules studied are:

    • Law of Torts
    • Land Law
    • Commercial Law
    • Business Policy
    • Business Economics

    You will then select one of the following optional modules:


    • Medical Law and Ethics
    • Intellectual Property Law


    Year 3

    You will spend this year in a professional placement. This year is optional for all students.

    Final YearThe final year builds on the first three years and provides you with a thorough knowledge of the law as it affects corporate activity. The legal and practical issues associated with business activities that cross national frontiers are also explored as are the techniques used to develop strategy within organisations.
