Course overview
This course focuses on international business law from a global perspective, identifying key characteristics of doing business in an international environment, main sources of regulation, key concepts of contract and corporate law.

You will also be introduced to business dispute resolution and explore the concepts of corporate social responsibility and, in particular, doing business in developing countries. The course also touches on other common law and civil law jurisdictions, and gives students a critical comparative law approach to international commercial law.

Legal Aspects of International Finance
The module studies international finance from an English law perspective and within the context of the practical and theoretical issues that arise. Covering key methods of international finance, such as syndicate loans, debenture, financial derivatives, and also touching other jurisdictions such as the US, the Middle East, Asia and Africa, this module provides you with a comparative approach to the law of international finance.

International Commercial Law
This module examines the practical and theoretical issues in international private transactions. The module focuses heavily on the traditional commercial sale and finance of such transactions, but it also incorporates principles of Intellectual Property Law, the knowledge of which is essential in the context of modern international business.

Laws on International Business Structures
This module examines the practical and theoretical issues involved in business organisations trading across jurisdictions.

International Commercial Arbitration and Mediation
This module provides you with a detailed introduction to both the theory and practice of international commercial arbitration and mediation, as well as other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Research Methodology
This module provides a thorough basis for Masters level research methods. It addresses core content areas appropriate to research in a legal context, and supports you to achieve appropriate levels of competence in these areas, as well as broadening your knowledge of research tools.

Dissertation
Your dissertation gives you the opportunity to demonstrate the mastery of a particular subject area, by completing an extended piece of self-managed research. Your dissertation will develop and test your ability to conceptualise, appraise and critically evaluate a significant topic relating to the legal issues surrounding international banking and finance.
