LONE WORKING AND PERSONAL SAFETY (1 Day)
AIMS
• To understand the nature of conflict
• To understand what causes anger and aggression
• To be able to describe two forms of communication
• Understanding of the Key Violence Risks
• Practical Advice on:
- Risk Assessments
- Reporting Practices
- During Visits
- Use of Vehicles
- Use of mobiles/ Personal Alarms
• To be able to recognise warning and danger signs
• To understand the impact factors
• To be able to use safe distance when dealing with conflict
• To understand the use of “reasonable force”
• To explore different scenarios for dealing with possible conflicts
• Understanding and practice of Breakaway Techniques
OBJECTIVES:
• Candidates will have the opportunity to learn practical advice on lone working
• Candidates will learn non physical diffusion and de-escalation techniques for challenging behaviour
• To demonstrate and practice self preservation breakaway techniques.
• To underline and set out the legal and statutory requirements for colleagues’ personal safety.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
• All candidates will have learnt a tool box of strategies to assist them in managing challenging behaviour and aggression.
• All candidates who participate in the day will be certificated by Acute for their attendance.
TEACHING METHODS
The course is delivered through presentation, exercises, DVD, Group Work and observed assessment
