This programme is designed to provide managers who manage lone workers with the knowledge and skills to enable them to implement robust lone working procedures or to help managers review existing procedures. The purpose of the training is ultimately to help managers implement lone working procedures that minimise the risks to lone workers. This programme is designed to complement the Brooks Jordan lone worker personal safety programme and can be provided as part of a package of instruction together with a comprehensive toolkit for managers and staff. The Law and a Manager’s responsibilities
- The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
- Awareness of the new Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act – ensuring we meet its objectives.
- Preparing a Risk Assessment including:
- Developing a culture of safety - Consulting with staff and other stakeholders
- Introducing Lone Working Procedures – a stepwise approach to managing risk.
- Alarms, mobile phones and covert tracking devices – when & why should they be employed?
- Accessing critical incident reports - Data Protection and Freedom of Information considerations.
- Implementing robust reporting procedures in accordance with the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR)
- Providing post incident support – why it is necessary and what it should cover.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this training, managers will be able to design and implement robust lone working procedures which are measured, relevant and proportionate to the risks identified and designed to meet the needs of the employing authority.
