MA in Art History & Visual Culture – starting Fall 2018
London is arguably the hub of the art world. World class arts and creative institutions, internationally positioned auction houses, dealers and critics, combine to make-up the unique London art scene.
Richmond’s MA in Art History and Visual Culture equips students with the knowledge and skills required to engage critically with global visual cultures of the twenty-first century and become leaders in their fields, as both academics and art world professionals. The programme has a unique intercultural orientation and offers training across scholarly and professional fields including an (optional) internship.
Students will take courses in: art and its histories, world art, visual cultures, contemporary art, research methods and an option in professional practice, alongside a thesis and (optional) internship.
Our alumni work as professionals in the art world, from galleries such as the National Gallery, and Hauser & Wirth; museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and V&A; and auction houses such as Sotheby’s. Others go on to work in related fields including art education, journalism or progress onto PhD and other postgraduate programs, including doctoral programs in the US (e.g. Harvard) and the UK (e.g. York).
