Course programme
The MA Modern Britain is designed to provide students with advanced tuition in their chosen field, and research training suitable for the effective completion of advanced research projects. This MA scheme offers students the opportunity to study modern British ‘political’ history in its widest sense by focussing on the theme of ‘political culture’: the forging of political identities; the ideologies and mentalities characteristic of an era of mass politics; the roles of demagogues or media manipulation; the relationship between active citizenship and state power; the role of experience, tradition and memory; etc. Students take a core module in semester 1 and an option module in semester 2 plus 60 credits of research training across both semesters in Part 1, and write a 20,000 word dissertation in Part 2. Students who complete Part 1 only are eligible for a Postgraduate Diploma.
