MA/MSc Enabling Creative Innovation*
The programme
Too often ideas fail through poor integration. With an in-depth examination of design and innovation this course equips graduates with the skills required to draw together the many different disciplines involved in successfully getting new products to market.
Focusing on the relationship between design and innovation, this programme enables students to create, orchestrate and manage multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of outstanding creative solutions. Equipped with exceptional problem-solving skills, a keen understanding of the application of digital technologies and entrepreneurial expertise, students play a vital part in the creative design process.
The programme provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the trends, developments and globalisation of today's Product and Interaction Design market. Learning Resources
Our learning resources and facilities are comprehensive and supported by our continuous investment in high performance, specialist technology.
We have an extensive Learning Resource Centre (LRC) - more than a library - and an increasing amount of our programme (course) materials are available on-line.
Technology
We place great emphasis on developing a cutting-edge infrastructure that can support the convergence of broadcasting and design and support high-end computer-based design.
We encourage our students to view technology as a tool and as a medium. We support them to use technology to:
acquire skills in communication, presentation, and personal organisation - to prepare for work in a global digital environment
aid team working, work in cross-disciplinary teams - where specialist skills are essential, and to share in group problem solving
acquire 'information-seeking skills' - the ability to use electronic search tools as a comprehensive resource, and to evaluate the results critically
cross traditional boundaries of discipline, technology, and country
solve problems holistically - and to take risks
Facilities
We continuously invest in technology and resources.
Our:
Computers are usually under three years old and wireless networked for roaming access and laptop use
Laboratories are built to workstation specification, with free access to the internet for instant publishing and research
Studio areas are large, open plan, well-lit, with individual workspaces for all students on our fashion programmes
Workshops are equipped for working in wood, metal, plastics, and combinations of materials - with a range of three-dimensional modelling programmes, image manipulation, visualisation, animation and web development software
Broadcasting facility is equipped with Discreet, Avid (Symphony, Lightworks), rapid prototyping, solid printer, and more
Learning Resource Centre
Our purpose-built Learning Resource Centre (LRC) offers you a portal to the world of information.
The information that you need in order to complete your studies can be found through a wealth of traditional and non-traditional sources.
The staff of the LRC will be on hand to assist you with your information gathering needs.
The LRC contains information in many different formats:
18,000 books
220 Journals
6,000 hours of off-air broadcasts available on video
a collection of commercial video and DVD materials
access to dozens of on-line databases and information sources at the touch of a mouse
Printed and electronic guides to all of the LRC's e-resources are available in the LRC and on the College intranet.
The LRC contains:
the reprographics centre - with colour and b/w printers and copiers, large format printers, and access to binding facilities
and
an A/V and media centre - where students can watch video and DVD materials, and edit these materials
The LRC also offers access to PCs and Macs, both in the Open Access Computing Suite, and on its upper floor.
Access to Learning and Study support is also delivered through the LRC: if you need help with Essay Writing, English as a Second or Other Language, or specific help on Dissertation writing, the LRC is the place to go.
