Course programme
The Master's degree in Practising Human Geography (RT) provides a scheme in the broad sphere of human geography. Its main aim is to provide students with the appropriate knowledge, skills and competencies required of an advanced, professionally trained researcher, specialising in the field of human geography. The human geography staff within the Institute who will be involved in delivering this degree are highly active in these debates, with a particular emphasis on representation and identity, constructions of nature and time, mobility, and citizenship. These skills and competencies are provided through a mixture of broadly-based and subject-specific training in research methodologies and transferable employed related skills, as set out in the ESRC Postgraduate Training Guidelines.
By delivering broadly-basedtraining, the MA Practising Human Geography provides students with the skills necessary for the completion of a thesis within the specified time limits. It also aims to enable students to develop the skills valued by employers. Subject-specific training willenable students to formulate and apply a range of research strategies in the area of human geography but which are set firmly within the context of approaches used across the social sciences as a whole.
Semester One
A coherent programme of inter-linked modules, delivering, at foundational level, generic training in social science research methods, together with
subject-specific training in the area of human geography.
Semester Two
Featuring topics in the broad field of Human Geography but with particular emphasis on representation and identity, constructions of nature and time, mobility, and citizenship.
Semester Three

Previous dissertation titles include:

Successful completion of the second semester results in the award of a University Diploma in Practising Human Geography.
