Course programme

Maintain and Operate the Chainsaw Requirements:
All those enrolled on the course must be physically fit and able.
The following items must be taken by students to the course site or can be hired by prior arrangement.
All equipment must be in a safe and useable working condition.
  1. Chainsaw with 380mm guide bar (max).
  2. Chainsaw safety helmet with ear muffs and visor.
  3. Chainsaw safety trousers.
  4. Chainsaw safety boats.
  5. Chainsaw safety gloves.
  6. Personal first aid kit.
  7. One 100mm plastic or aluminium wedge.

Content:
Teaching and testing will cover:
Unit 1 : Maintain the Chainsaw
  1. Health and safety requirements including P.P.E. and kinetic principles.
  2. Machine component function and control.
  3. Machine maintenance and testing.
  4. Chain sharpening.
  5. Fuel mixes
  6. Starting techniques
Unit 2 : Preparation and Cross Cutting
  1. On site preparation
  2. Basic cross cutting techniques using a chainsaw with maximum guide bar length of 380mm.
