The law states that in order to carry goods for hire and reward it is a requirement under the Goods Vehicle Operators Regulations 1977 for the operator to be 'Professionally Competent'.
A Certificate of Professional Competence being held by the operator or someone employed full time to be responsible for the control of the vehicles on their fleet meets this requirement.
There are two types of licence and which one is required depends on where the goods are being transported.
The Two Licences Available
1) National
This is for operators carrying goods for hire & reward (for other people) in and around the UK.
2) International
This is for operators wishing to carry goods for hire & reward (for other people) outside the UK.
NB. If International is required it is compulsory for the operator to hold National.
CPC courses are held at our fully OCR accredited training centre and conducted by our fully qualified and registered instructor.
Course duration for the National qualitfication is 6 days and the International is 3 days.
These courses are available 4 times a year (every 3 months). To run prior to the OCR examinations.
Please note if you wish to book on a cpc course, you must book your place at least 5 weeks prior to the examination date. After this time entries can NO LONGER be accepted.
Please note this qualification is not the equivalent of the Drivers CPC, which is being introduced from 2008 for PCV and 2009 for LGV. To work as a driver you will need to conform to the regulations for Periodic Training for drivers.
