Managing the Design Process M0618
Practices related to the management of design vary widely in the UK
construction industry, with corresponding results. This comprehensive
three-day course seeks to identify and reinforce key challenges in the
management of the design of buildings and structures, explore
established and innovative practices, and create a framework of practice
for the practitioner.
The course is structured around nine key aspects of Design Management.
The material is tailored to meet the needs of a wide variety of people
from the experienced practitioner to the less experienced designer, from
those who will be required to undertake a design management role to
those who just want to understand more about the management of design
and the design process.
A framework is developed at the outset using the Design in the Project
Process session. This is then developed as a common thread throughout
the course delivery. Exercises are used to stimulate the participants to
explore specific issues and draw from their own experience, providing
valuable knowledge to be shared with each other under the expert
guidance of the trainer(s).
All the modules are conducted in a relaxed participative format, which
recognises and utilises what the participants already know as well as
providing them with many new ideas, techniques and practices.
The tutors are all chartered civil engineers and have extensive
experience of the design process in both industry and academia. They
have wide ranging experience on design management processes and their
application in practice. They consult to industry, conduct research and
continue to develop best practice application in the field.
