Principles of Manual Handling (Objects)

Length: One day

Certification: Safety Training Nationwide Manual Handling certificate

This course is for those who carry out manual handling activities at work, introducing candidates to hazards. Manual handling which includes lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling and carrying loads is the cause of a large number of injuries, often due to a poor lifting technique.

  • Under the "Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992" employers must ensure that any manual handling task that cannot be eliminated and is likely to be a risk to health and safety is examined and assessed. Such tasks would include moving large pieces of equipment or materials in a workshop. A risk assessment should be conducted in order to assess these risks and to produce control measures to reduce the possibility of injury.
