About this course
It is recommended that candidates have achieved a minimum of two GCSE's at grades C - D or above in Maths, Science or English based subjects or an equivalent qualification or suitable industrial experience. Candidates will require an interview and complete a skills assessment. Candidates must be in current employment in a relevant boat production or services environment.

One day per week is the minimum requirement to support the Technical Certificate although additional days can be included depending on the training needs of the business or individual.

Content
There are various pathways which trainees can follow depending on business needs ranging from installation and fitting out using wood based skills, installation and fitting mechanical and electrical components associated with the boat building and servicing industry. Other specialist training can be arranged on request.
This training will develop practical skills required for a candidates to demonstrate a level of competence and be assessed to meet National Standards at NVQ level 2.
The Technical Certificates will provide the underpinning knowledge to support the candidates training and development in associated subjects according to their specialist areas.
Assessment Candidates will be assessed through the use of examinations, practical and theory assignments.
Assessment within the workplace will be required to complete the selected NVQ 2 qualification
Progression
Once complete candidates can progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship
Framework
- Initial Training - Three units from Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations
- Technical Certificate - An appropriate Level 2 award such as the, (Progression Award in Applying Engineering Principles, or Certificate in Boat Production Maintenance and Support
- Key Skills - Application of Number Level , Communication Level , Information Technology Level 1, Working With Others Level 2 and Improving Own Learning Level 2
- NVQ Level 2 Qualification - Boat Production and Support Services or Marine Engineering
