Course programme

This course comprises of ten specialised units that students can progress at their own time, however there is a restriction of up to two weeks - as recommended by awarding body;-

  • What are Massage Mediums - understand the types of massage mediums that can be used by a therapist to complete a massage of the hands, feet, face or full body massage. Understanding why these mediums may differ and their uses

  • Talc - where does talc come from, understand the properties of talc, misconceptions of talc and benefits of using talc.

  • Mineral oil - where does mineral oil come from, what is mineral oil, understand the propterties of mineral oil, misconceptions of mineral ol and benefits of mineral oil

  • Vegetable/Plant oils - understand the difference between mineral oil and plant/vegetable oils

  • Basic Chemistry - understand basic chemistry to enable you to comprehend how oils differ in structure and how this alters their appearance and properties i.e. benefits

  • Fatty acids - important characteristics of plant/vegetable oils this helps when choosing a particular oil for a skin condition

  • Oil Production - how oils are produced and prepared for use, Oil Profiles - a break down of the properties and benefits of each oil

  • Massage Cream - what are massage creams, benefits of creams and when appropriate to use

  • Butters - what are butters, can they be used within massage

  • Waxes - what are waxes, can then be used within massage
