Course programme
Development
Since Sports Performance Services Ltd (SPS Ltd) was founded in 1991 we have worked consistently to improve and develop our courses. In 2008 the Diploma programme was validated by University of Teesside as a 60 credit (600 hour) module (UCAPD). In addition, the University validated a second 60 credit (600 hour) module leading to the award of Certificate of Higher Education (Cert HE) - Massage in a Sports Environment.
This qualification is currently the highest ‘stand alone' sports massage education programme in the UK.
(SPS is currently working with Higher Education to develop a further qualification - Foundation Degree (Science) - Massage in a Sports Environment)
The Cert HE Programme
The Cert HE programme is a progression from the Teesside UCAPD module and/or SPS/OCR Diploma. It comprises a 60 credit (600 hours) module (University Module Code PHY1014-N) that is offered in several different formats/packages. The module includes a placement in elite/professional sport, classroom work (theory & practical), recorded practice and reflection. The module builds and combines skills previously learned and includes Specific StretchTM, Trigger Point Therapies and Myofascial Release methods.
The Cert HE qualification is two 60 credit University modules (1200 hours), the only sports massage qualification that has the quality assurance provided by Higher Education.
