Study in Nice, Canterbury and Berlin

Be Trilingual thanks to the Centre International de Formation Européenne Master programme.

The one-year European Policy and Governance - Trilingual Studies programme (French, English, German) of the Master in Advanced European and International Studies (MAEIS) is an international, interdisciplinary and itinerant programme.

Following the slogan 'Learning and living Europe', the participants move their place of studies from Nice to Canterbury and then to Berlin. The programme concludes with the defence of the Master thesis, and an optional internship (three months minimum).

In Nice (October-December) the students have introductory classes to all the five modules, completed by international conferences and seminars dealing with current world politics events.

In Canterbury (January-April) the students will study at our partner, the University of Kent. During this time they choose two courses among the curriculums proposed by the School of Politics and International Relations of the University, in line with their specialisation. A one-week study trip to the European and international organisation in Strasbourg, Brussels and Luxembourg is organised during this period.

Finally, in Berlin (April-July), the programme deepens the student's knowledge on European integration and contemporary problems in international relations. Our partner Institut für Europaische Politik, provides an dialogue with EU integration experts and offers an insight into political life in Berlin.

As of July students can undertake an internship within a European institution, international organisation, national diplomacy, consultancy, NGO, and research institute. This optional programme grants an additional 30ECTS after students have submitted an internship report, leaving behind months of hard work but also of amazing experiences.

Course programme

  • The EU in a Multipolar World: The module aims at enriching students’ understanding of the similarities, differences and interactions of diverse players in a globalised world. It considers prevalent and emerging issues of international politics including migration, conflict resolution, globalisation and the future of transatlantic relations.
  • Policy Making in the EU: This module aims at familiarising the students, who could well become the next generation of European and international decision-makers, with an expert knowledge of the structures, institutions, challenges and policies of the European Union, as well as of the historical development of European unification.
  • Federalism, Governance and Democracy: An original perspective on contemporary political institutions, domestic as well as international, through varied federal and multilevel governance analytical frameworks. It deals with issues such as the diffusion and balance of power, sovereignty, minorities, democratic representation, economic coordination and European integration.
  • The European Economy and Globalisation: The main challenge for the European economy is to remain a key player in the production of goods and services and in the creation of wealth, given the context of globalisation and the rise of emerging economies. In addition, deepening the economic and social integration and the predominance of solidarity over national retreat remain crucial. Within this framework, the module analyses the strengths and limitations of globalisation and its key players, the European economy in the context of globalisation, the rise of emerging countries and regional cooperation.
  • Professional Skills Workshops: It equips participants with the professional skills and competences that will enable them to work in the context of the European and international organisations.
