The Master of Creative Writing degree lets you explore and develop your skills in writing fiction, non-fiction, screenwriting, poetry and more. Develop a deep understanding of the theories and histories of writing. This course offers intimate access to Sydney’s literary life, including major literary and cultural events and institutions with which the University has close ties.

Study plan

To qualify for the award of the Master of Creative Writing a candidate must complete 72 credit points, including:

a) a minimum of 18 credit points from core units of study; and

b) a maximum of 42 credit points from elective units of study including at least one Workshop unit of study and one Writers at Work unit of study.

c) With the permission of the Degree Coordinator a maximum of 12 credit points can be taken as elective units from units of study outside those listed in the Creative Writing subject area of the Postgraduate Unit of Study Table, including units of study offered by other faculties.

d) a minimum of 12 credit points from capstone units of study.
