Graduate opportunities
This course is designed for anaesthetists, neurologists, neurophysiology scientists and technologists, and trainees in these areas. Students enrolled in critical care coursework, and as non-award candidates can also undertake units of study.
The coursework is the same for all students. Medical practitioners enroll in the medicine option e.g. Master of Medicine (Clinical Neurophysiology) and scientists enroll in the science option e.g. Master of Science in Medicine (Clinical Neurophysiology).
Currently, formal accreditation is not required to practice clinical neurophysiology. Application has been made to the Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists to fulfill the Scholar Role of the anaesthetics training program.
The Association of Neurophysiological Technologists of Australia (ANTA) and the Australasian Cognitive Neuroscience Society (ACNS) are supportive of the introduction of a postgraduate course to complement workplace training.
Students can continue with the Master of Medicine (Advanced), in line with the coursework rules. Excellent students can also apply to complete a higher research degree, through an MPhil or PhD.
