This Pilates (Mat Work) course will enable teachers to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to teach this specialised movement technique at beginner level. Pilates can be taught on a 1-2-1 basis or as a group exercise session and is an excellent skill for both Studio Professionals and Personal Trainers.
The course covers:
- health and safety guidelines
- the description and application of the Pilates principles
- the safe instruction of a variety of Mat Based Pilates exercises and the modifications, adaptations and progressions for each exercise
- how to structure a beginner level mat class
- exploring suitable warm up and preparation exercises
- release stretching to encourage relaxation of the working muscles
- Pilates teaching techniques: effective layering of cues, the use of imagery and visualisations, hands on correction, teaching position
- theory of global and postural muscle groups
- the technique of breathing with movement
- how to promote ‘flow’ into the class by incorporating effective smooth transitions.
