MSci Mathematics and Philosophy

Programme structure
Year 1:

  • Core Maths (Calculus, Analysis, Linear Alegbra, Geometry)
  • One additional unit of level 1 Maths
  • Introduction to Philosophy A and B
  • Choose from:

- Philosophical texts 1, 2, 3 or 4
- Introduction to Philosophy of Science

Year 2:

  • Choice of two or three Mathematics units closely related to Philosophy
  • Realism
  • Normativity
  • Plus at least two units from:

- Epistemology
- Political Philosophy
- Philosophy of Mind
- Ethics
- Philosophy of LanguageLogic 2
- Philosophy of Science
- Philosophy of Mathematics

Year 3:

  • Choice of Mathematics units, to include at least two at level 3
  • Two Philosophy optional units
  • One extended essay

Year 4:

  • Choice of Mathematics units, to include at least one at level 4
  • MA unit Philosophy of Mathematics
  • One unit from MA in Philosophy and History of Science
  • Plus two finals essays or dissertation
