Hear from one of our tutors about studying Mathematics at Liverpool Hope.
‌Mathematics is a fascinating and exciting subject which underpins modern business, commerce, engineering, science and technology: it is as old as civilisation itself, and yet it is still the only way to quantify, explain and organise the world around us.
At Liverpool Hope, you will develop a passion and enthusiasm for Mathematics and its applications, and you will acquire a range of mathematical skills and techniques enabling you to handle problems involving complex data.
This single honours BSc programme has been accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. This programme will meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation, awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications, when it is followed by subsequent training and experience in employment to obtain equivalent competences to those specified by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) for taught masters degrees.

You will be given well-structured learning activities that lead to more independent project work, which is the best way to develop the fundamental skills that will lay the foundation for successful study at Level 2. You will study specific areas of Mathematics such as Calculus, Probability Theory and Linear Algebra. Matlab will be used as a computational environment.

Level 2

You will study Mathematical Modelling and problem solving and approaches for Computational Simulations.

Level 3

You will study Applied Mathematics topics such as Optimisation and Operations Research where you will apply mathematical understanding to solve real-world problems.

You will be assessed through both examination and coursework. Coursework is mainly project based, which aims to apply mathematical understanding to problem solving. At Levels 1 and 2, 50 per cent of the assessment is through examination. At Level 3, assessment is 100 per cent coursework based.

You may also be interested in...

Accounting

Computer Science

Information Technology
