Functional skills are practical skills that equip learners with the necessary knowledge and understanding to use and apply Mathematics in everyday life, so they can get the most out of work and education. You should consider this course if you have an E or below at GCSE Mathematics.

What does the course involve?
Mathematics is one of the three functional skills. You will be required to learn skills, which mean that you must be able to use maths in work and life situations.

- use arithmetic to solve problems involving whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages and ratio.

- use simple formulaeand scale drawing to work out areas and volumes.

- use statsitics to display and interpret information.

What will I study?
There are three skills you will need to develop Represent - Make sense of the situation and represent it mathematically.

Analyse - Use maths to find results and solutions.

Interpret - Understand the results and choose appropriate ways to present the information.
