What is the Mathematics GCSE course?
This maths GCSE course is a one year modular course where you will be with other adult students who need a more up-to-date qualification to the one they have already. No previous experience is required and this course goes right back to the basics, although it is preferable for you to have achieved a grade D in maths GCSE.

If your maths is very basic or you lack confidence you might consider enrolling for the -Improve your Maths- course first.

  • Numbers and their use in everyday problems
  • Use of mathematical notation
  • Simple equations and graphs
  • Shape and Space
  • Symmetry
  • Area, volume and trigonometry
  • Statistics and probability
Teaching and Learning
Each week you will be taught in a classroom environment which will include time spent on working on exercises from a text book or past examination papers in a pleasant and supportive atmosphere.

You will also be expected to spend up to three hours a week on work set by the tutor. Your tutor will require you to complete any unfinished exercises you started in the lesson.

Assessment details
Three modular examinations spread throughout the year.

NB This is funded as an examination based course and students should expect to enter the examinations.

Progression
To Further and Higher Education and help gain employment or training.

NB There will be no class on Wednesday evening 3 March 2010

This is a Learning & Skills Council (LSC) funded course and you may be exempt from the tuition fee, however you would be required to pay the examination fee at the time of application. Tuition fees for overseas students may vary from those quoted.

Extra costs : A scientific calculator, text book approx £15, A4 file, writing materials and lined file paper to be brought to the first and subsequent lessons.
