This BSc Mathematics with Foundation Year provides a broad education in mathematics and the application of the subject to problems in the natural and social sciences. It covers theoretical aspects, as well as methods and modelling techniques. You will develop a range of mathematical skills, build your confidence and independence in the study of mathematics and develop the knowledge and skills to successfully progress.

This programme will build your confidence and give you the core knowledge and key skills you need to succeed at university. You will also get a taste of the subject area you are interested in and deepen your understanding of the career potential of your chosen subject.

Our part-time Foundation Year degrees allow you to spread out your Foundation Year studies over two years. As the 'Foundation Year' is made up of 120 credits, as a part-time student you can take 60 credits in each of your first and second years before starting the main four-year degree. This means that you can take six years to complete your part-time degree with Foundation Year.

Upon successful completion of your Foundation Year studies, you can either progress to the part-time BSc Mathematics, or transfer to one of the following part-time programmes:

BSc Mathematics with Accounting with Foundation Year
BSc Mathematics with Economics with Foundation Year
BSc Mathematics with Management with Foundation Year
BSc Mathematics with Statistics with Foundation Year

About this course

Graduates can pursue careers in business and finance, statistics and analysis, or education. This degree can also be useful in becoming an actuary, operational researcher, mathematical research scientist, secondary school teacher or statistician.

Course programme

COURSE STRUCTURE

You take two core modules in each of Foundation Years 1 and 2, to a total of 120 credits.

If you successfully complete these modules, you will automatically advance on to the four-year, part-time, evening study BSc Mathematics or Year 1 of one of the programmes listed above.
